Pistons deliver knockout blow to 76ers

After a great effort from Allen Iverson and crew, the 76ers lose 88-78 to the Detroit Pistons in game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday night. The Pistons win the series 4-1 and go on to face the winner of Boston/Indiana. The 76ers end a good season with Allen Iverson grabbing the NBA scoring title, and the young players gaining much needed playoff experience. Let's see what the 76ers can do in the offseason to make a run for the title in 2006.

The Philadelphia Phillies hold a record of 12-15 going into Wedesday which is good for last in the NL East. Although they are only 5 games back of first, the Phillies just put Jim Thome and Kenny Lofton on the disabled list. The Phillies just started a 10 game trip on the road with games against the Mets, Cubs, and Brewers. On the bright side, Brett Myers is doing very well with a 2-1 record and a gangsta 1.34 ERA. Don't forget to vote for your favorite Phillies for the 2005 All-Game. Eight Phillies starters appear on the 2005 ballot: C Mike Lieberthal, 1B Jim Thome, 2B Chase Utley, SS Jimmy Rollins, 3B David Bell, LF Pat Burrell, CF Kenny Lofton and RF Bobby Abreu.

Eagles Receive A Grade In NFL 2005 Draft

The Eagles come out on top in the 2005 NFL Draft. There might not be any stars here, but the Eagles selected as many as six players with the potential to start. My favorite pick: Round 2 outside linebacker Matt McCoy.

76ers fall to 0-2 in the series

I can't believe that the 76ers lost the first game against Detroit, but to loss again last night really hurt. The 76ers began their best-of-seven playoff series against the Pistons last Sunday. After losing the first game 106-85, the 76ers played horrible down the stretch and lost 99-84. The 76ers get their two games at home beginning on Friday. Hopefully, they'll be able to pull out two wins with the hometown fans cheering them on.

Hope everyone had a great spring break. Today is the first day back and major league baseball's opening day. Let's look at this week's update:

Phillies News: At Citizen Bank Ballpark, the Phillies outlasted the new look Washington Nationals 8-4. Jon Lieber picked up the win with a great performance. Kenny Lofton had a 3-run home run, and Pat Burrell was perfect at the plate going 3-3. This series against the Nationals continues April 5th and 6th.

Sixers News: The 76ers won in Boston on Sunday afternoon, 97-93. This allowed the 76ers to trail the Celtics by only 3 games for the Atlantic Division title with 9 games remaining in the season. During the game, 76ers forward Kyle Korver broke the team's single season three-point record with 198 made. The Sixers still own a playoff spot in the 8th hole, and trail the Cavaliers and Pacers by 2.5 games for 6th.

Eagles News: The Eagles are getting ready for the 2005 NFL Draft on April 23rd and 24th. The Eagles have 13 picks with 5 of those in the top 94 picks. Experts say that the Eagles will address their needs at offensive line and defensive line or trade some picks away for higher picks next year. On the rumor mill, Eagles WR Freddie Mitchell should be gone by draft day. The Eagles are in talks with the Vikings to send the receiver for two picks in the 2006 draft.

Shortly after finishing a very hard 477 test, I'm running down to computer lab to give this week's update.

76ers news: Sixers host the central leading Detroit Pistons tonight. The 76ers are coming off a tough loss to the Chicago Bulls who hold the 6th spot in the playoffs. The 76ers are currently .5 games up on the Orlando Magic for the 8th and final playoff spot, and one game behind the Indiana Pacers for 7th with 16 games remaining.

Eagles news: The Eagles sign unrestricted free agent Keith Adams. The reserve linebacker and special teams ace landed a one-year deal with the team last Friday. Adams figures to compete with incumbent Mark Simoneau for the starting weakside linebacker job. The Eagles are also preparing for the 2005 NFL Draft next month where they have 13 picks.

College Basketball: With UPenn losing in the first round to BC, Villanova is the only local team left in the field of 16. After their wins against New Mexico and Florida, Villanova is riding high into their matchup with #1 seed North Carolina on Friday. On the downside, Villanova has loss star guard, Chris Sumpter, for the season in the win over Florida. In the NIT, St. Joseph's has won two straight to move on the the quarterfinals. St. Joseph's plays Texas A&M in the NIT quarterfinals tonight at 8 on ESPNU.

Phillies News: Opening day is almost here. On April 4, the Phillies take on the Washington Nationals at Citizen Bank Ballpark. In spring training news, the Phillies lose to the New York Yankees 5-1 last night in Tampa. The next game for the Phillies is today at 1:05 against the Houston Astros.

Alright, intramurals are over. No Joke took the L in the championship on Monday night. Looking back on the four year run of No Joke Intramural Team, we had a nasty record of 42-8, two championships, and a semifinalist in the regional tournament.

The 1st Squad

This season was one of the best. Through all the injuries and dismantling, we managed to make our way to the championship. Although we didn't win, it was fun to play ball with some of my closest friends. Big ups to Fox, Price, B, Weez, Big Jay, Fibbs, Baran, Tommy Luc, Matty O., Trip, Matt, Chris, Greg, Other Jay, Jack G.. Calio, Skidz, Boz, the groupies (u know who you are), and anyone else I forgot. Lots of love here. We gotta get in a few games before we're all done.

Well, I'm sitting here watching the Sixers game vs. The Lakers, and I decided to write this post.

Current News Around the Philadelphia Area:

College Basketball: March Madness begins with the start of the NCAA Tournament. Local teams, #13 seed UPenn and #5 seed Villanova, get ready for their first round matchups on Thursday and Friday.

Pro Basketball: 76ers are only mediocre with the new addition of superstar, Chris Webber. The 76ers are playing .500 basketball since Webber was acquired, but are still in the hunt for the playoffs was 27 games remaining.

Pro Football: The Eagles are not making much noise in the free agency market this year. After re-signing LB Jeremiah Trotter, RB Brian Westbrook, RB Correll Buckhalter, DL Corey Simon and DL Hugh Douglas, the Eagles went into the pool to sign back-up QB Michael McMahon. The Eagles did take some hits this week by losing Pro-Bowl LB Ike Resse, DL Derrick Burgess and veteran OL Jermane Mayberry. The Eagles plan to use the draft to replace these positions.

Baseball: Put the steroids aside because the Phils are shining in Spring Training. The Phillies outclassed the Blue Jays en route to a 10-8 victory on Monday afternoon at Bright House Networks Field. Brett Myers looked terrific in his four inning outing.

		The Sixers become an instant contender for the Eastern Conference crown by making two deals on the eve of the NBA trade deadline. The 76ers have acquired five-time NBA All-Star forward Chris Webber, along with forwards Matt Barnes and Michael Bradley, in exchange for forwards Brian Skinner, Kenny Thomas and Corliss Williamson.

Sixers News - After all-star weekend, three 76ers came out on top. Allen Iverson, one of the league's finest players, came away with the all-star game MVP trophy. Kyle Korver took second in the three point shootout in the skills competition and hit seven threes in the rookie sophmore game on Friday. 76ers rookie Andre Igoudola also competed in the rookie sophmore game on Friday. The 76ers hit the court onThursday to play the Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

Eagles News - As off-season begins and the NFL draft is appoaching, there are good odds that the Eagles will be right back in the 2006 Super Bowl. After addressing their own free agent needs with players such as Jeremiah Trotter, Derrick Burgess, Ike Resse, Brain Westbrook, and Chad Lewis, they may look to the draft and free-agent market to look for offensive line, defensive line, and wide reciever position.

Phillies News - The Phillies are down in Clearwater, FL beginning their spring training. They have a promising season in trying to make a run to the pennant. The Phils welcome Kenny Lofton to the outfield which fills the void that was there for the past couple years. Keep a eye on the Phillies this year.

Flyers News - No season this year. Is salary cap that big of a deal?
